How pickup works
When it comes to picking up your motorcycle, Chesapeake Chariots makes the process as seamless as possible. We utilize a small flatbed or trailer to transport your bike safely without requiring your key for loading. Our team will strap your motorcycle down at the frame for secure transport. You can schedule a pickup at your convenience, and we will coordinate with you to ensure everything runs smoothly. Whether your motorcycle is parked in a garage or a storage lot, we’ll handle the logistics for you, making the donation experience hassle-free.
What drives donation value
The value of your motorcycle donation is influenced by various factors. For example, Harley-Davidson motorcycles maintain their value exceptionally well, while Japanese cruisers tend to devalue at a slower rate. Condition is key, especially for sport bikes, where well-maintained models are much more valuable than those that have been abused. Additionally, aftermarket parts may add or subtract value from your motorcycle. If your bike is a vintage or custom model, obtaining an appraisal may be necessary (IRS Form 8283 Section B) to determine its fair market value for tax deductions.
Documentation you need
- Valid title for the motorcycle
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) for off-road models
- Service records, if available
- Appraisal for classic or vintage motorcycles
Maryland specifics
In Maryland, when donating a motorcycle, it's essential to be aware of DMV rules regarding title transfers. State-titled motorcycles require the title to be signed over to Chesapeake Chariots for a successful donation. If you cannot locate your title, you may need to apply for a duplicate through the Maryland DMV. Bill-of-sale documentation is also helpful, but ensure that the title is properly handled to avoid complications during the donation process.
